There’s no doubt that the graduate job hunt is competitive, and as a fresh graduate you have to work hard to make yourself stand out from the crowd. This is particularly true if you’re looking to carve out a career in an industry that isn’t directly linked to your degree – perhaps you’re a history graduate wanting to break into banking, or the biology graduate looking to make it in marketing. If you haven’t got relevant experience or a degree in the industry you want to break into, this doesn’t mean all is lost but you’ll instead need to prove your worth in other ways. We help graduates do this every day and can help you too. The Give A Grad A Go Training Programmes give you the opportunity to learn about your chosen industry from experts within the field, so you can increase your employability by demonstrating a proven interest and knowledge in your chosen sector. Here are two examples of the programmes we have on offer.
Demonstrating a deep and up-to-date knowledge of your industry is essential for the interview process, and this is especially true in the fast-paced world of digital marketing. To get you up to speed, we have partnered with the international digital marketing agency Quirk to offer a full day digital marketing workshop that covers everything from social media to search engine optimisation.
Georgie Hextall attended our most recent workshop and as a Geography graduate felt that the insights she gained were invaluable.
“I definitely felt more confident about my job hunt after the workshop and came away with a detailed understanding of digital marketing”
...Georgie has recently started as an Account Executive for a marketing agency in London…
“I had applied to hundreds of companies with the same information but it was the help and support I received from Give A Grad A Go and attending the Digital Marketing Workshop that got me noticed and onto the career ladder”.
It’s no secret that the banking and finance industries are fiercely competitive to break into, with the top graduate jobs going to those who can demonstrate a knowledge that goes beyond academia. This is the very reason we have partnered up with Alumno Consulting for our Banking & Finance Workshop – we want to help you conquer the transition from university to the workplace. In this workshop you’ll learn the inner workings of the industries, from understanding equity, to simulating the stock exchange, as well as cross analysing the Financial Times.
Hal Wardroper graduated this summer with a degree in Arabic, Spanish & Middle Eastern Politics. Like Georgie, Hal found his current job as a direct result of attending one of Give A Grad A Go’s Training Programmes and has recently started as a Junior Foreign Exchange Broker for a boutique finance firm in the city. Hal attended our Banking & Finance Workshop, and had the opportunity to demonstrate his knowledge and ability to both the trainer Rob Woods (who has over 15 years’ experience working with the likes of Credit Suisse and JP Morgan) and to the Give A Grad A Go Consultants. Hal found that the workshop was…
“A great place for networking”
“Would highly recommend it, especially if you don’t have any prior knowledge about the industry.”
