The worst job I've had

Before this job, I worked at a corporate PR agency within the Real Estate sector. The company was very set in its ways, not sure if its something I would like to do again!

In this Business Development Executive graduate job, you will be joining the newly formed sales team, with the aim of growing the companies client base through prospecting and lead generation. You will be at the forefront of commercial efforts, supporting the Director of Sales & Marketing with the sales cycle, where your hard-work, grit and hustle will have a direct impact on revenue. You will need to be determined, motivated and resilient, as you will be have responsibility of ownership of all lead generation activities, researching, contacting and engaging with prospective clients.

Key responsibilities

In this Business Development Executive graduate job, your responsibilities will include:

  • Following up on leads and enquiries from potential clients
  • Calling primary schools and selling the company’s products
  • Researching the target market and generating leads
  • Attending client meetings and building a constant sales pipeline
  • Working towards targets and KPI’s set by your manager
  • Following up with past clients and cross selling products
  • Investigating and resolving queries from customers

So what are we looking for?

  • A highly driven graduate, ideally with a minimum degree result of a 2.1 from a top university
  • Minimum 6 months’ experience in B2B Business Development, Recruitment or a Sales-based role
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A passion for Education would be ideal
  • Growth mindset; not afraid to try new approaches, turning mistakes or failures into a learning opportunity
  • A self-motivated person who thrives in a startup environment and actively seeks additional responsibility and autonomy
  • Someone who is highly target-driven and possesses a results-orientated work ethic

  • Explaining the R&D tax Credits scheme to developers / CTO's / wider technology teams and guiding them through the process
  • Finalising technical reports
  • Updating and changing company policies to speed up delivery process
  • Gaining a deep understanding of funding schemes and government funding options

So, what are we looking for?

  • A university degree, ideally in Engineering or Science
  • Experience within engineering and science, outside of academic (e.g. work experience or a placement year in this field)
  • Confident speaking about all things tech
  • Previous experience with liaising with developers / CTO's about technical aspects
  • A strong rapport-builder with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A confident, independent self-starter who loves finding new ways of engaging clients
  • Confidence working with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organisational skills - you must be able to efficiently work across multiple projects
  • Experience with negotiations and contract management
