The worst job I've had

I held a job doing door-to-door sales for a number of different charities. Hopefully I learnt something from the late evenings cold calling in the rain!

Job description

In this Payroll Manager job, you will be joining a well-established commercial contracting business, within a team of around 40 people. Your department will consist of 3 teams and you will oversee your own team – ensuring that all tasks and deadlines are met to the client agreements, and liaising with other internal departments to ensure that payroll is completed correctly. The work will be fast-paced and hands-on, but incredibly rewarding – as you’ll be essential to helping this impressive business grow smoothly and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

In this Payroll Manager job, your responsibilities will include:

  • You will ensure that payrolls are run at the agreed times and none are missed or delayed
  • Authorising payments
  • Matching and completing the payroll reconciliation spreadsheet
  • Holding one to one meetings with team members and attending management meetings
  • Liaising with the Accounts department for terms and debt information for clients
  • Producing system invoices / credits via the invoicing procedures
  • Keeping the employee absence / holiday sheet updated when required
  • Contacting clients for feedback

So, what are we looking for?

  • A solid academic background, preferably with a relevant degree
  • You will need to be CIPP qualified
  • A hardworking and self-motivated attitude - someone who is not averse to rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in!
  • An excellent phone manner and general communication skills
  • Experience working in a fast-paced management role would be beneficial
  • The ability to multitask and stick to deadlines is paramount - you will be spinning many plates at once
