I’d applied for a few roles through Give A Grad A Go, but wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do. I came in to visit the team to discuss what kinds of graduate jobs my skills would be best suited to, and I really liked the atmosphere in the office. Although I’d never really considered a career in graduate recruitment before, when I spoke to the team about the possibility of a job here I thought that it sounded like something I’d be good at – and here I am!

The worst job I've had

I held a job doing door-to-door sales for a number of different charities. Hopefully I learnt something from the late evenings cold calling in the rain!

Job description

In this New Business Consultant graduate job, you will be supporting the sales team, who are responsible for providing quick, easy and cost-effective consumer data and demographic solutions. Day to day, you will be acting as the first point of contact for both prospects and clients, building and managing your own accounts and developing key relationships. This multi-faceted role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop consultancy sales skills, alongside the scope to embark on a long-term career in a professional organisation.

Key responsibilities

In this New Business Consultant graduate job, your responsibilities will include:

  • New business development via telephone, email and LinkedIn to create a pipeline of business
  • Successfully meeting a monthly sales quota by securing sales from both new business (majority) and account management / growth (minority)
  • Taking ownership of managing, reporting on and improving your own sales performance including devising and implementing sales plans
  • Driving growth within your market, contributing to sales strategy and participating in its creation
  • Negotiating and closing business to exceed sales targets of sales and marketing messages
  • Consistently meeting KPI’s surrounding outbound call activity, quotations, conversions and other lead sourcing activities

So, what are we looking for?

  • Someone who is educated to degree level or equivalent
  • A minimum of 6 months’ B2B internal sales experience
  • Someone who can demonstrate a proven track record of hitting targets consistently
  • The ability to absorb complex solutions and present them with simplicity, and the capacity to understand technical information and think laterally to deliver a variety of solutions
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • The ability to manage and support client organisations at all levels
  • Fantastic attention to detail
  • A proven ability to proactively generate new business
  • A self-starter, who is also self-disciplined and ambitious
  • A confident telephone manner, outgoing and confident
  • The ability to source leads and expand the sector through their own efforts
  • A demonstrable track record of high sales performance

  • Sourcing, tracking and shipping information for dispatched orders
  • Requesting and comparing shipping quotes for international and domestic orders

  • Collating documentation and information to arrange shipments (booking forms, dimensions, certificates and invoices)

  • Managing all daily processing of manual orders and invoicing, ensuring payments are scheduled in a timely manner

So, what are we looking for?

  • A 2.1 degree from a top university, ideally in a STEM subject
  • An Excel whizz with experience compiling reports and models from various sources - VBA experience would be a huge plus!
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Previous experience in startup environments is preferable – a burning desire to learn all you can about building a brand in an exciting industry is essential!
  • Experience in managing external stakeholders is desirable
  • Experience and exposure to mainstream e-commerce applications (WooCommerce, Shopify, Shipstation, Pipedrive, Salesforce, PowerBI and Xero) and Order Management systems is desirable
