The worst job I've had

I can honestly say that I've been lucky enough to have enjoyed every one of my previous roles - from working over the summer at McDonald's after my A-Levels, to leading a team and training at new cafe openings within M&S, I have worked with some amazing people and look back fondly at every experience.

Job description

In this Sales & Operations Planning Manager job, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process. Joining the business at a time of unprecedented growth, your role will involve finding and negotiating new strategic partners globally, from suppliers and manufacturers to global 3PL partners, and implementing new systems and processes to ensure the business can grow, and that customers have a world-class experience. You will need to have a strong understanding of how to provide meaningful and actionable information using large and different types of data including sales forecasts, to enable effective decision-making processes that drive resources requirement planning.

Key responsibilities

In this Sales & Operations Planning Manager job, your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of developing and implementing an effective S&OP process for the business and becoming the S&OP best practice champion
  • Gathering sales forecasts and data points from various commercial teams (retail, website and marketplaces) to create forecasts based on historic data, industry trends and intelligent information
  • Working with the Supply Chain Manager and the manufacturing department to build the production forecast for our 7+ outsourcers
  • Building and animating S&OP meetings with multiple teams
  • Driving S&OP process optimisation - by developing advanced analytical tools and reports on key S&OP metrics, performing analysis on forecast accuracy KPIs, material shortages and overstocks, and proposing forecast adjustments and validation with the marketing and sales teams
  • Helping to facilitate cross-functional communication between commercial teams, new product development teams and production to support new product launches, line extensions, promotions and discontinuations
  • Evaluating the demand and supply risks and opportunities around the supply plan, and taking or proposing actions to mitigate the impact
  • Understanding the supply risks as well as commercial volume risks
  • Managing all day to day departmental tasks including SKU and master data management
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

So, what are we looking for?

  • A 2.1 degree in a STEM subject from a top university
  • 2-4 years’ S&OP and demand planning experience within an established FMCG business or high growth startup
  • Strong understanding and experience of both traditional retail and e-commerce and marketplace selling
  • Excellent understanding of core forecasting principles, methodologies and best practices
  • Excellent team player - need to be able to work with, influence and manage stakeholders across the business
  • Must be comfortable forecasting both on spreadsheet and within ERP’s and forecasting tools
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets experience including VBA
  • Excellent ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to drive cross-functional consensus and results in the day-to-day business
  • A willingness to travel to China on three to six-week business trips to work with the Supply Chain Manager
