The worst job I've had

I have been very fortunate, I've always enjoyed and loved all jobs I've held, from being a waiter in a tapas bar, working on a hog roast stall (by far the tastiest), a hand full of bar roles at local pubs or even working in the tea rooms at the National Trust. I've always chosen jobs which I love and enjoy that way it doesn't feel like I'm working (as hard).

Job description

In this Business Development Executive job, you will be responsible for driving sponsorship and exhibition revenues across the company’s portfolio, selling sponsorship packages to C-Level executives within pharma, legal / compliance, construction, and oil and gas events. With a proven track record in B2B sales, you will be researching and reaching out to international, senior decision makers to engage, find out about their changing needs using a consultative sell approach, and offering opportunities to grow their business. Working closely with marketing, operations and production, you will also be attending your own events across Europe and USA.

Key responsibilities

In this Business Development Executive job, your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking responsibility for selling sponsorship packages to C-Level within pharma, legal / compliance, construction, and oil and gas events
  • Understanding new topics, industries, market audiences and potential suppliers quickly
  • Identifying key businesses in order to build and maintain a healthy pipeline of qualified leads
  • Exceeding agreed revenue targets for each conference and maximising revenue from each brand new deal as well as previous sponsors
  • Account management of current clients including forward selling
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with senior level decision makers
  • Writing bespoke sponsorship packages as well as some marketing and copywriting
  • Arranging and conducting face-to-face client meetings
  • working closely with marketing, operations and production to ensure high quality delivery of your events
  • Proactively keeping abreast of the latest trends in consultative selling through books, newsletters, webinars and forums as well as having internal coaching to improve your skills

So, what are we looking for?

  • 2 years’ experience in a B2B sales based role
  • Ideally, a 2.1 from university
  • A professional, calm, courteous and friendly manner
  • The ability to influence and persuade senior decision makers, as well as close high-ticket sales with ease
