Company profile - Journalism Startup

In this Research Associate job, you will be joining a relatively young business that is looking at journalism in an entirely new way. Taking issue with the overwhelming amount of news information that is consumed, they are tackling the problem head-on, by creating a daily mobile edition that allows members to share their own views. Job description - Research Associate

This Research Associate role will support the Intelligence team who produces index and data projects to make complex data clear, explainable and comparable. You will be working with the Responsibility and Sustainability indexes which are pioneering rankings of the FTSE 100 that investigates companies’ performance on social and environmental factors. You will also be working on the Better Food Index, a ranking of the 30 largest food companies in the UK based on sustainability performance. As a researcher on these large-scale ongoing data projects, your role will involve researching and investigating these companies. Our client is looking for a researcher who is passionate about holding companies to account for their sustainability performance, with prior experience and understanding of ESG and ideally knowledge of food sustainability.

Key responsibilities - Research Associate

In this Research Associate job, your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and collecting detailed data from annual reports, government strategies and other source material.
  • Reading and recording literature and references on corporate & food sustainability, ESG, Green investment and other related topics
  • Responding to specific research
  • Liaising with FTSE 100 companies about their sustainability
  • Working in a team to respond to and resolve specific research
  • Summarising transcripts and interview notes from conversations with sustainability
  • Analysing data from the Index (using Google Sheets) and contribute towards our editorial output
  • Supporting the writing of methodology documents, reports, and key results pieces

Job requirements - Research Associate

  • BA degree in a written subject – e.g. Geography, Public Relations, English, History
  • Interest in current affairs, sustainability, technology, economics and other social forces that are shaping the world
  • Meeting deadlines and working effectively and proactively to deliver results
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good ability with all Microsoft Office packages
  • Working knowledge of key sustainability issues and themes
  • Strong technical skills – data analysis and data visualisation skills
  • Confident handling large data sets
  • You must be very organised, with strong efficiency skills and a keen eye for detail
