Job description - Graduate Accountant Scheme

As a member of the Audit graduate intake, you will be part of a team undertaking audits of clients’ financial statements and similar assurance work. You will be provided with full ACA study support and your 4-year audit graduate training programme will combine a wide variety of technical work alongside fantastic personal and professional development opportunities. This role will appeal to ambitious, enthusiastic individuals, who will be eager to be part of a firm where clients value the services provided and appreciate the relationship with their advisors. There are strong opportunities for career progression with many graduates taking on Senior and Managerial roles prior to full qualification.

Key responsibilities - Graduate Accountant Scheme

  • First Year:

    Work within teams completing audits on a number of different clients in a variety of industries. The majority of your assignments will be based at client offices, where you will get to interact with client staff. Their trainees spend around 10 weeks a year studying towards the ACA with structured training provided by external tutors, spread out over the year. You will also spend time in the office when you will be finishing off audit fieldwork, preparing clients’ accounts, iXBRL tagging accounts for HMRC, preparing for the next audit or undertaking ad hoc tasks.
  • Second Year:

    Take more responsibility for audit work with less supervision, taking responsibility for completing entire parts of the audit or assisting senior members of staff with more complex areas. You will also become more involved in the preparation of financial statements and develop your financial reporting skills further.
  • Third Year:

    You will have more opportunities to lead assignments, will be tackling complex areas and taking a leadership role on some of their larger audits. You will have the opportunity to coach and train junior members of staff.
  • Final Year:

    Passed your final ICAEW exams and will continue supervising jobs and managing teammates, and start to develop yourself further within your role.

Job requirements - Graduate Accountant Scheme

  • Degree educated, with a class of 2.1 or above - our client will consider disciplines outside of a traditional finance and accountancy realm.
  • If completed Accounting and Finance degree - have to have no exemptions
  • You will need to be pragmatic, a team player and take pride in your work!
  • Fantastic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge would be hugely beneficial, alongside a good grounding in basic IT proficiencies such as Excel and other MS packages
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach!
